The excerpt “Shine On in Montana” has a great deal of similarity to the tragedy that took place in Ferguson. The story that rooted from Billings, Montana back in 1993 told of a series of hate crimes directed towards the Jewish population, but instead of the community falling apart, they became more united in “their commitment to peace and religious tolerance” (p. 12). Just like in Ferguson, despite this horrible occurrence, a group of students were still willing to lend a helping hand to those who suffered.
