Join us with the Sacred Witness on May 29 7PM Central Time 6PM Mountain Time

New Mexico is the testing site for first atomic bomb given the name Trinity. It is also home to fracking and drilling with its role in oil and gas production along with its neighbor state Texas where the large part of Permian Basin can be located.  How are the people from New Mexico see their environment from what it was to what it is now?  Have you ever wondered what extractivism is?  Where did it come from?  Why does it matter to be concerned about this?

Permian Basin, home to the largest fracking site, is where you can find pump jacks and drills every mile or less than a mile from each other.  The Permian Basin is located in two states namely Texas and New Mexico.  Out of this land are oil businesses who are reaping the big rewards of the profit and in some cases losses.  Oil and gas are not renewable and it leads to destruction of the earth and underground and emission of gas into the athmosphere. It is, however, an income generator for the workers in the field.   How are we to reconcile the call to sustainability and stewardship of our environment (Genesis 1:26-31, Romans 8:18-30)?

We would like to invite you to Sacred Witness.  This is a virtual event to learn about the experience of people who took the Permian Basin Immersion in March 2025.  We can learn the beauty of our relationships and the danger that extractivism does to the environment.  This is the space to reflect and ponder about how the oil and gas industries are playing a role in the reality of our climate and the migrants.  The current economy relies heavily on oil and gas for energy and plastics.  We also depend heavily on nature to survive and thrive.

Interfaith Power and Light New Mexico and Texas together with Citizens Caring for the Future are hosting this event.  Join us in this sacred space on May 29 at 6 PM Mountain Time or 7 PM Central Time.
