CCOAHT Postcard Campaign a Success!

Success of the Lenten postcard campaign to Costco and Starkist was reported at the March 30th meeting of the Coalition of Catholic Organizations Against Human Trafficking (CCOAHT). Over 15,000 postcards were sent , plus online postcards. Requests for postcards exceeded the supply.  Our Congregation collected over 200 signed postcards demanding an end to human trafficking in the fishing and seafood industry.  Thanks to all those who participated!

The National Fisheries Institute contacted Christopher Ljungquist and Hilary Chester of the Migrant and Refugee Services arm of the US Conference of Catholic Bishops (MRS/USCCB) requesting a meeting, which will be held at the USCCB offices on April 5. A report of the meeting will be sent to CCOAHT members and FAN (Franciscan Action Network) will be sure to include an update in our newsletter. One participant in the CCOAHT meeting requested a one-pager of facts about maritime labor which could be available for parishes as a follow-up to the postcard campaign. This will be prepared, but it was stated that hard statistics are hard to come by, though stories can be shared.
