Confronting Human Trafficking and Modern Slavery

The Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility (ICCR) is a coalition of 300 faith-based institutional investors with over $100 billion in assests. (As CCVIs we are members of SRIC (Socially Responsible Investment Coalition), and SRIC is a member of ICCR.) Founded in 1973, the organization advocates for corporate social responsibility, files shareholder resolutions and engages in dialogue with corporate management on issues such as global warming, human rightsand other social and environmental concerns.

It has recently released a "STATEMENT OF PRINCIPLES AND RECOMMENDED PRACTICES FOR CONFRONTING HUMAN TRAFFICKING AND MODERN SLAVERY."  CLICK HERE to read the statement.

  1. On page 57 of Engage, it explains active of nonviolence by saying “On one hand, I will not cooperate with your violence or injustice; I will resist it with every fiber of my being. On the other hand, I am open to you as a human being”. In this article, the sisters are demonstrating active nonviolence by not inflicting any violent attacks on the traffickers, but making it clear to them that what they are doing is wrong. They do this by rescuing their trafficked victims and by prosecuting those who are guilty of trafficking. Having the courage and strength to be actively nonviolent is truly remarkable.
