Incarnate Word Sister Elizabeth Riebschlaeger Joined the Commission Shift

In September 2024, Sr. Elizabeth joined Virginia Palacios, Founder and Ex. Dir. of Commission Shift (CS), based in Laredo, TX, and members from around the State, to testify at the Texas Railroad Commission regular hearing on behalf of safer practices and stronger regulation of the oil and gas hazardous waste industry in Texas. CS arranged a Halloween-themed display (with TRC permission) on the corner of their property in Austin, to educate the public on the environmental risks of the industry.

Raised on a ranch north of Laredo in South Texas, Virginia earned a Masters Degree in Environmental Management from Duke University in NC, then returned to Texas to work for environmental protection as fracking was transforming the State.  She began her career at the TX State Office of the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) in Austin.

Visit the Commission Shift website for more information about the work of CS and the oil and gas industry in TX and the legislative work of the organization at the TRC and the Legislature. There are excellent articles on current and evolving industries and their potential impact on the air, groundwater and bays along the Gulf Coast of Texas.
