“This is a real nuisance,” my children and I said to my wife when she insisted that we separate our household trash. Even our family and friends thought that she went to extremes in this. But actually she didn’t. Separating organic waste, paper, glass, and other items is an arduous task but it has become a practice that is both necessary and useful.
Organic waste (which we generally bury) can become fertilizer for plants. Separating other items facilitates the work of the recyclers and cuts down on the risk of accidents during their work.
It can be an aggravation at first, but later it becomes habit. And a good habit! Although separating household trash may seem like something insignificant, when we each do our part, we protect Mother Earth. Everyone can begin.
