10 Building Blocks of Catholic Social Teaching

Thanks to Rosa Maria Icaza for sending in this article written by William J. Byron, S.J. and published on www.preda.org.

How many Catholic social principles are there? Fr. Byron combed through several USCCB documents on Catholic social teaching and came up with 10. He emphasizes that here is nothing at all official about his count. Some future Catechism of the Catholic Church may list more or fewer than these.  He presents the 10 principles of Catholic social teaching, which should not be seen as a rewriting of the documents, but just editing and reformatting.

The 10 building blocks are:
Human Person
Human Life
Association
Participation
Preference for the Poor
Solidarity
Stewardship
Subsidiarity
Equality
Common Good
