This Earth Day, Catholics around the world are coming together to protect forests and the people who depend on them, in the Amazon and beyond. Advocate for action on climate change to protect the Amazon, and plant a tree to symbolize your community’s commitment to protecting forestland.
Earth Day falls on April 22, just after Easter. We invite you to host an event on Divine Mercy Sunday, April 28, in answer to Pope Francis’ call that “the works of mercy also include care for our common home.”
This year, the official theme for Earth Day is “Protect Our Species.” To celebrate the gift of hope and symbolize our commitment to protecting all creation, we’re taking action together. We invite you to join Catholics around the world through these action ideas:
1) Hold a tree-planting ceremony, rejoicing in our common commitment to protect creation, and especially the world’s forests and those who share them.
2) Engage in a local climate advocacy campaign to protect the Amazon and the communities that call it home.
3) Complete the reporting form here to share the news of your action with Catholics around the world.
