Every year on February 8th
the global Catholic Church participates in a day of prayer and awreness to end
human trafficking. February 8th was
chosen because it is the Feast Day of St. Josephine Bakhita, a survivor of
human trafficking who is now the patron saint of all those caught in the chains
of modern day slavery, including current victims and survivors of human
trafficking.
Back in 2015, our Congregation took a Corporate Stance
Against Human Trafficking, affirming “the dignity and rights of all people and
denouncing human trafficking and the economic and social systems that promote
it.” One of our commitments in this
corporate stance is to participate in the international days of prayer
including February 8th. For all those in
San Antonio, we will be gathering in prayer to pray for an end human
trafficking on February 7th at 2:00pm in the Chapel of the Incarnate Word. All are welcome so feel free to share the
invitation below as well!
In order to live into our corporate stance and encourage
the ongoing prayer, education, and action to end trafficking and support
survivors, the Congregational Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation Office
sends you this special communication with:
