World Day of Prayer for Creation September 1 2026

September 1 has been the day of prayer for Creation established by Patriarch Dimitrios I of Orthodox in 1989 which the Chistrian churches joined in 2001 and Pope Francis join for the Roman Catholic to also be in solidarity with the Christians as the World Day of Prayer for Creation since 2015.  

Join the Laudato Si' Movement Season of Creation Prayer on September 1, 2026.  Another year to set aside for the intentional days of prayer, reflection, and supporting each other in this work of restoration of what we have been consuming faster than how the nature can recover.  How do we slow down to care for our water.

The Theme for this year's Season of Creation is Living Water with inspiration from EZEKIEL 47:9, 12

Wherever the river goes,[a] every living creature that swarms will live, and there will be very many fish, once these waters reach there. It will become fresh; and everything will live where the river goes.  People will stand fishing beside the sea[b] from En-gedi to En-eglaim; it will be a place for the spreading of nets; its fish will be of a great many kinds, like the fish of the Great Sea.  But its swamps and marshes will not become fresh; they are to be left for salt. On the banks, on both sides of the river, there will grow all kinds of trees for food. Their leaves will not wither nor their fruit fail, but they will bear fresh fruit every month, because the water for them flows from the sanctuary. Their fruit will be for food, and their leaves for healing.”

A Prayer for Our Earth

All-powerful God, you are present in the whole universe

and in the smallest of your creatures.

You embrace with your tenderness all that exists.

Pour out upon us the power of your love,

that we may protect life and beauty.

Fill us with peace, that we may live

as brothers and sisters, harming no one.

O God of the poor,

help us to rescue the abandoned and forgotten of this earth,

so precious in your eyes.

Bring healing to our lives,

that we may protect the world and not prey on it,

that we may sow beauty, not pollution and destruction.

Touch the hearts

of those who look only for gain

at the expense of the poor and the earth.

Teach us to discover the worth of each thing,

to be filled with awe and contemplation,

to recognize that we are profoundly united

with every creature

as we journey towards your infinite light.

We thank you for being with us each day.

Encourage us, we pray, in our struggle 

for justice, love and peace.
