One For Ten: A Series of Films about Innocence and Death Row

from www.oneforten.com

THE TOPIC:
The death penalty was re-instated in the United States in 1976. Since then, for every ten people that have been executed, one innocent person has been released from death row after spending an average of ten years in isolation.

THE FORMAT:
'One For Ten' is an online series of campaign films that are being produced and broadcast over five weeks in April and May of 2013. During those five weeks, we are traveling the width of the US and interviewing ten individuals who have been freed from death row. Driving from New York to Las Vegas, we film with a different person every few days and produce a new short film for release online every Tuesday and Friday.

THE FIRST SEVEN FILMS:  CLICK HERE to view the first seven short films; each is about five or 6 minutes long.  The remaining three films will be released on May 10, May 14, and May 17.

  1. On page 65 of Engage, I learned that “The power of nonviolence lies in facing ourselves with love and compassion…”. (65) Many people lack the basic knowledge of this because many people nowadays live their lives without any type of religion or belief in God. I think this is so sad and I believe this is why so many people agree with the death penalty. The death penalty is a repulsive thing. The fact that people are killed because of a horrible crime is not a good plan. As horrid as the crime is, we are not God. We do not have the power to decide who lives and who dies. I definitely recommend watching the 7 short films above. I learned so much! Thank you.
