Global Day of Action and Prayer for Syria on September 21st

We invite you to participate in the Global Day of Action and Prayer for Syria on Wednesday, September 21st, the International Day of Peace.

Five plus years of war has taken a heavy toll on our Syrian brothers and sisters. On September 21 we will send a resounding interfaith call for an end to the devastating conflict that has shattered Syria.

Here are some ways to take part in the Global Day of Action and Prayer for Syria:

• Plan a prayer service or other activity in your community in conjunction with the day. Resources and a toolkit are posted on the Global Ministries website.
• Prior to the service, this interfaith Call for an End to the War in Syria will be issued at a press conference. We invite you to Endorse the Call by adding the name of your congregation, organization and community to the list of sponsors by sending an email to globaldayforsyria@gmail.com.
• Pressure your members of Congress and the White House to cease funding appropriations for military support and training of armed groups in Syria.
• Call on the Obama Administration to redouble U.N. efforts toward an immediate ceasefire in Syria, and urge that peace negotiations include a commitment to free and fair elections.
• Follow the Syrian Nonviolence Movement on Facebook.

Los estadounidenses dicen no a la guerra en Siria. Un sondeo de CNN refleja que el 59% de los encuestados se muestra contrario a que el Congreso apruebe una resolución que autorice el ataque.
El sondeo, de la cadena CNN, sigue en la línea de los publicados los últimos días y ejemplifica, una vez más, el rechazo mayoritario entre los estadounidenses a una intervención militar de su país en Siria. Pope Francis plans a day of prayer and fasting for peace in Syria.

"Today, dear brothers and sisters, I wish to make add my voice to the cry which rises up with increasing anguish from every part of the world, from every people, from the heart of each person, from the one great family which is humanity: it is the cry for peace! It is a cry which declares with force: we want a peaceful world, we want to be men and women of peace, and we want in our society, torn apart by divisions and conflict, that peace break out! War never again! Never again war! Peace is a precious gift, which must be promoted and protected.
