Lending a helping hand in Ferguson

Students from Incarnate Word Academy took time to volunteer at a Ferguson food pantry after the unrest following the Michael Brown shooting.
After donating thousands of canned goods to Ferguson food pantries, IWA students were on hand at the BTC pantry today to help deliver food to its clients. KMOV was on hand to capture the story!

  1. On page 12 of Engage, in the process of learning about nonviolence, we focused primarily on learning about hate crimes. The excerpt “Shine On in Montana” has a great deal of similarity to the tragedy that took place in Ferguson. The story that rooted from Billings, Montana back in 1993 told of a series of hate crimes directed towards the Jewish population, but instead of the community falling apart, they became more united in “their commitment to peace and religious tolerance” (p. 12). Just like in Ferguson, despite this horrible occurrence, a group of students were still willing to lend a helping hand to those who suffered. It really is comforting to see students, not much younger than myself, serving in such a positive way and it is something that any single human being can learn from.
