The IT staff of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word
have already been living out the challenge of Laudato Si to better care for our
common home, through their goal of recycling 100% of the technology and
electronic equipment that the sisters use so that nothing goes to the landfill. Carlos Dominguez and Hans Breitbarth, in
collaboration with Robert Martinez from Maintenance, shared some of the ways
that they have achieved this goal.
They
found a company, STS Electronic Recycling Inc., that guarantees 100% of the
items turned in to them will be recycled.
They have also donated about 25 old computers to Catholic Charities for use
by the immigrant and refugee populations they serve. Holy Rosary Catholic School has also received
some of the Congregation’s old computers.
For battery recycling they use the company All Techs, or for computer
batteries they can be sent back to the manufacturers where they will be
recycled and refurbished. Ink toners can
also be sent back to either the manufacturer or to Office Depot for recycling.
If you have any old electronics lying around
that you no longer use, make sure you don’t throw them out! Just contact Carlos or Hans and they will
work with Robert to come pick it up and make sure it is recycled. Thank you to this wonderful team that is
helping our Congregation to put into practice caring for our common home!!
