A Holy Hour: Prayer In Solidarity with The Victims of Human Trafficking

July 30 is the International Day against Human Trafficking declared by the UN, so we have gathered on this day to pray for those who are victims of this crime. In the many forms of exploitation, women, men, girls, and boys are enslaved in factories, sweatshops, mines, camps, nightclubs and domestic work. Human beings, our sisters and brothers, are being treated as objects. Our people are being exploited after being victims of lies. We ask for forgiveness for the silence. We ask for courage not to dismiss any effort to fight this scourge. And we also pray for all the people and organizations that fight against these situations of injustice, so that the God of life will continue to give them audacity and wisdom.

The global exploitation offers a very wide scope for individuals who see human trafficking as a business. One of the most notorious dimensions of human trafficking is sexual exploitation. However, there are other forms of exploitation: labor exploitation, exploitation of children for the sex industry, begging, war, servile marriages and organ trafficking.

We invite you to bring to your mind and heart the names of cities or people that you know who have been victims of one of these situations and to pronounce them aloud presenting them to our good God.

Organized crime and the illegal trafficking of drugs and of human beings choose their prey from among the people who have the most inadequate means of subsistence and even less hope for the future.”

O God, when we hear of children and adults being deceived and taken to unknown places for purposes of sexual exploitation, forced labor, and organ ‘harvesting’, our hearts are saddened and our spirits angry that their dignity and rights are ignored through threats, lies, and force. We cry out against the evil practice of this modern slavery, and pray with St. Bakhita for it to end. Give us wisdom and courage to reach out and stand with those whose bodies, hearts and spirits have been so wounded, so that together we may make real your promises to fill these sisters and brothers with a love that is tender and good. Send the exploiters away empty-handed to be converted from this wickedness, and help us all to claim the freedom that is your gift to your children. Amen

Talitha Kum, the global network against Human Trafficking, invites us to join the #StopIndifference Campaign on the occasion of the UN World Day Against Trafficking in Persons: 30th July.

Raise your voice against human trafficking! The blue heart represents the fight against this crime and at the same time it is a gesture of solidarity with the victims of trafficking: Here I am.

This year the United Nations has a goal: to work on the front lines of ending human trafficking. These are people who work in different ways: they identify, support, advise and seek justice for the victims of trafficking, and challenge the impunity of the traffickers.

During the COVID-19 crisis, the essential role of these relief figures has become even more important, particularly as the restrictions imposed by the pandemic have made their work even more difficult. Yet their contribution is often overlooked and unrecognized.

Para detener la indiferencia frente a la Trata de Personas

Talitha Kum, la red de Vida Religiosa contra la Trata de Personas, nos invita a unirnos a la Campaña "Deja la Indiferencia" con motivo del Día Mundial Contra la Trata de Personas.

Alza tu voz contra la trata de personas. El corazón azul representa la lucha contra este delito y al mismo tiempo es un gesto de solidaridad con las víctimas de la trata: Aquí estoy. 

Este año las Naciones Unidas tiene como objetivo: trabajar en primera línea para terminar con la trata de personas. Se trata de gente que trabajan en diferentes aspectos: identifican, apoyan, asesoran y buscan justicia para las víctimas de la trata, y desafían la impunidad de los traficantes.

Durante la crisis del COVID-19, el papel esencial de estas figuras de socorro se ha vuelto aún más importante, particularmente porque las restricciones impuestas por la pandemia han hecho que su trabajo sea aún más difícil. Aún así, su contribución a menudo se pasa por alto y no se reconoce.

Una Hora Santa: en solidaridad con las víctimas de la trata de personas

El día 30 de julio es el Día Internacional contra la Trata de Personas declarado por la ONU, por eso nos hemos reunido este día para orar por quienes son víctimas de este delito. En las múltiples formas de explotación, mujeres, niñas, hombres y niños viven esclavizados en fábricas, talleres clandestinos, minas, maquiladoras, campos, centros nocturnos y trabajos domésticos. Seres humanos, nuestras hermanas y hermanos, están siendo tratados como objetos. Nuestra gente está siendo sometida a la explotación tras ser víctimas del engaño. Pedimos perdón por el silencio. Pedimos valentía para no desestimar ningún esfuerzo que luche contra este flagelo. Y también pedimos por todas las personas y organizaciones que luchan en contra de estas situaciones de injusticia, para que el Dios de la vida les siga dando audacia y sabiduría.

El mercado de la explotación global ofrece un amplísimo ámbito de acción para los individuos responsables de la trata de seres humanos. La trata de personas es un negocio a la demanda de las actuales formas de explotación. Una de sus dimensiones más notorias es la explotación sexual. Sin embargo, existen otras formas de explotación: la explotación laboral,  la explotación de menores para la industria del sexo, la mendicidad, la guerra, los matrimonios serviles y el tráfico de órganos.

Te invitamos a traer a la mente y al corazón los nombres de ciudades o personas que conozcas que han sido víctimas de alguna de estas situaciones y los pronuncies en voz alta presentándolos a nuestro buen Dios.

Dios ayúdanos a contrarrestar con nuestra vida toda forma de esclavitud. Te pedimos junto a Santa Bakhita para que la trata de personas termine. Danos la sabiduría y la fuerza para estar cerca de todos los que han sido heridos en el cuerpo, en el corazón y en el espíritu, para que juntas y juntos podamos realizar tu promesa de vida y de amor tierno e infinito por estos nuestros hermanos y hermanas explotados. 1. Create a Sign: Download the Sign Templates here. Print and write what kind of COVID-19 recovery you envision. Some examples include: “I want a faithful recovery that…(addresses environmental racism, or reduces pollution, or respects the human right to water,  or prioritizes safe and affordable housing, or creates clean energy jobs, or invests in a clean energy future.)” Choose and write the action you prefer. If you want, you can also create your own posters.

2. Post a picture of yourself with your sign on social media: Take a photo of yourself with your sign or just a photo of your sign and post it on Facebook, Twitter, and/or Instagram. Make sure to use the hashtags #FaithfulRecovery and #JustRecovery. On Twitter, tag your Senator so they can see your message; you can find your Senators’ Twitter handles here. As our country looks to recover from the coronavirus pandemic, we need solutions that are sustainable for people and for the climate. Creación de la Conferencia Eclesial de la Amazonía

El 29 de junio, nace un nuevo organismo de vital importancia para la misión pastoral de la Iglesia en América Latina y el Caribe:  La Conferencia Eclesial de la Amazonía . 

Como resultado del discernimiento del Sínodo Especial para la Región Amazónica, a la luz de las propuestas finales del mismo en su Documento Final, una comisión promotora integrada por las presidencias del CELAM y de la REPAM, y con el apoyo de asesores y expertos, comenzó El proceso de estudio y la definición de un proceso que conduciría hacia la Constitución de este nuevo organismo. La Asamblea se llevó a cabo durante dos jornadas, los días 26 y 29 de junio, con una gran representación de la diversidad eclesial en el territorio Amazónico.La naciente Conferencia Eclesial de la Amazonía ha desarrollado su fase asamblearia para la confirmación de su nacimiento, y ha presentado al Consejo Episcopal Latinoamericano (CELAM) en el cual esta Conferencia estará integrada de manera orgánica y con su debida autonomía.

Jonny Reyes), el representante de Cáritas de América Latina y el Caribe, Monseñor José Luis Azuaje, de la CLAR, Hermana Liliana Franco, y de la REPAM, Mauricio López. A ellos se sumaron tres representantes de las comunidades indígenas, miembros de la Comisión Postsinodal: Patricia Gualinga, la Hermana Laura Vicuña y Delio Siticonatzi.
 La Santa Sede estuvo representada por la Secretaría del Sínodo de los Obispos con el Cardenal Baldisseri (Secretario) y Mons. Mario Grech (Prosecretario), la Congregación para los Obispos con el Cardenal Marc Ouellet (Presidente), la Congregación para la Evangelización de los Pueblos, con el Cardenal Luis Tagle (Presidente) y el Dicasterio para el Desarrollo Humano Integral, con el Cardenal Michael Czerny (Subsecretario Sección Migrantes y Refugiados). Como asesores expertos participaron el P. Carlos Galli (teólogo especialista en sinodalidad y el P. Alphonse Borras (jurista canónico).
 Al momento de la inauguración, el Cardenal Claudio Hummes dijo que “Esta Conferencia hace parte de los nuevos caminos que Sínodo Especial de Obispos para la Amazonía propuso.Es nuestra responsabilidad constituir esta Conferencia, animados por nuestro querido Papa Francisco. Él mismo sugirió el nombre ". 
 A su turno, el vicepresidente de la Red Eclesial Panamazónica, el Cardenal Pedro Barreto, aplaudieron la creación del nuevo organismo asegurando que llegó el momento para dar gracias a Dios porque creó la Conferencia Eclesial de la Amazonía , donde la voz de los indígenas en la Amazonía se ha escuchado ". 

Trabajo en sinodalidad
 La creación de la Conferencia Eclesial de la Amazonía se enmarca en la tradición colegial y sinodal de las Iglesias en América Latina y el Caribe.El Consejo Episcopal Latinoamericano, como organismo de comunicación eclesial cuenta con 65 años de experiencia en el acompañamiento a los episcopados del continente y esta propuesta responde al clamor de los pueblos de esta parte del mundo y que aparece con claridad en el Documento Final del Sínodo Especial para la Amazonía en su número 115:
“Proponemos crear un organismo episcopal que promueva la sinodalidad entre las iglesias de la región, que ayude a delinear el rostro amazónico de esta Iglesia y que continúe la tarea de encontrar nuevos caminos para la misión evangelizadora, en incorporando especialmente la propuesta de la ecología integral, afianzando así la fisonomía de la Iglesia amazónica ”(DF 115). 
Del mismo modo, con enorme esperanza y alegría compartimos la elección del Card.Claudio Hummes, OFM (Brasil) como su presidente; de Mons. David Martínez de Aguirre, OP (Perú), como su vicepresidente; y por otro lado, para el Comité Ejecutivo se ha elegido a Mons. Eugenio Coter (Bolivia), como obispo representante de las Conferencias Episcopales del territorio Amazónico, junto con las presidencias de las instancias eclesiales regionales que acompañan este proceso de manera orgánica: CELAM, REPAM, CLAR y CÁRITAS ALyC; junto a los 3 representantes de los pueblos originarios designados.
