Puerto Maldonado (Agenzia Fides) - The Bishops present at the Special Meeting of 98th Peruvian Episcopal Conference, taking place in these days, have decided to publicly support His Exc. Mgr. Francisco González Hernández for the fruitful pastoral work carried out in the Apostolic Vicariate of Puerto Maldonado.

The declaration was announced because Mgr.González, Apostolic Vicar of Puerto Maldonado, was criminally charged with defending the local population, who protested against a series of irregularities in the construction of the inter-ocean highway. The main complaint of the population refers to the fact that the highway crosses the center of the city. Faced with this situation, the Archbishop intervened supporting the requests of the population, this is why he was seriously threatened and a criminal trial against him began.
